Who has a hard time being present? Are you a Point A to Point Z kind of person? That type of mentality can make people seem aloof. Like they want to be anywhere but here. That’s not necessarily the case. We can be deep in thought about the past or creating mental scenarios for future endeavors. Everyone is not capable of reserving those thoughts for their alone time. These thoughts can occur in the midst of an accomplishment. Sometimes, it’s hard to appreciate the present.
If you feel like you’ve been phoning it in with the people around you, I suggest keeping a gratitude journal. Making the effort to write a minimum of three things that you are grateful for each day requires cancelling our distracting thoughts. It helps develop a present mindset. When entries start getting repetitive, this exercise can push you to find or create more present moments of gratitude. There is nothing wrong with having your head in the clouds. Don’t stay too long. You’ll miss what’s going on around you.
