It’s been five years since Black Panther was released (February 18, 2018) in the United States. Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther was introduced to the Marvel Cinema Universe in Captain America: Civil War (2016). This set the stage for his origin movie and Wakanda’s role in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) & Endgame (2019). The predominantly black crew, costume/set design, and music brought King T’challa technology advanced nation to life that was still influenced by it’s fictional culture. It’s likely the reason why the film won three Oscar’s.
None of the actors took home Oscar’s for their performances, which is surprisingly common for comic book movies. However, the music was so outstanding that Ludwig Göransson won a 2019 Oscar for Music Written for Motion Pictures. In my opinion, Black Panther Soundtrack still holds up. That’s why I decided to share my Top 5 Songs from the soundtrack for Mystery Post Tuesday. Three of the five were selected, because I vibe to them on a regular basis. The other two I like from a musical score perspective. They invoked the feelings and emotions needed to bring the scene to life.
All The Stars ~ Kendrick Lamar feat. SZA
Pray For Me ~ Kendrick Lamar feat. The Weeknd
X ~ SchoolBoy Q feat. 2 Chains & Saudi
Seasons ~ Mossy, Sjava, Reasons
Killmonger ~ Ludwig Göransson
Final Thoughts
Although Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) brought home more awards than Black Panther (2018), I like the music from the first movie more. That’s probably because Chadwick Boseman’s passing impacted me in a way that I didn’t anticipate. After watching his postmortem role in Da 5 Bloods, I decided not to watch his final film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (2020). In both films you can see how big a toll cancer was taking on his physique near the end.
Honestly, it annoys me that we had to wait four years for Black Panther sequel. Watching King T’Challa’s fictional going home service in theaters was an emotional experience for me. I was one of those people that cried immediately at the beginning and balled my eyes out at several points throughout the movie. It maybe a will before I share my Top 5 Songs from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. If you’d like more information about the first soundtrack, check out IMDB Soundtrack Production Details. Hope you’ve got time to stop by for Trisha’s Go In Fridays.
