So, I’ve been a Webtoon Reader for about 6 years. It’s getting more expensive to support webcomics on this platform. There are less free coin events. Sometimes Webtoon fails to honor the conditions met to receive free coins. That’s why I’ve considered checking out other webcomic platforms. Where to begin? An Instagram reel helped me make a decision.
I liked the premise of The Princess Imprints a Traitor. I didn’t mind the spoiler because many of these popular webcomics are based on web novels. Plus, this meant I didn’t have to rush through the story to get to the conclusion. Still, I had to figure out who was publishing this story. That’s how I finally downloaded Tapas.
So, Why Tapas?
Initially, I did it for the webcomic, Revolutionary Princess Eve. To my surprise, the webnovel was available too. You see, Webtoon created a separate app called Yonder for webnovels. So, I appreciated the fact that I didn’t have to download another Tapas affiliated app to continue the story. Plus, Tapas is binge reader friendly.

Binge Reader Friendly
Webtoon’s excessive use of Daily Pass comics has hindered binge readers from binging new series, because they can only unlock one free episodes a day. Whereas some Tapas series allow readers to unlock a free episode every 3-hrs for 72-hrs. In my opinion, this is a smart tactic.
Binge Readers are enticed to spend ink unlocking episodes, but they have the option to comeback every three hours at no cost. This increases the amount of times a user is engaged with Tapas on a Daily Basis.
I’ll admit some series are daily or every three days. However, it’s based on when you read them. Tapas will show you by the minute how long till you can unlock an episode. Unfortunately, each series has a limit of free to read episodes. That might seem like a turn off, but a patient reader can continue to read Tapas for free.
Free Ways To Earn Ink
Currently, there are four ways to earn ink. They are as follows: reading events, ads, treasure hunts and fortune cookies. Tapas has daily reading events that help readers earn ink. The reading amount and quantity varies. The events are themed and cover a variety of tropes. Even if that webcomic isn’t your cup of tea, you can earn ink for other series.

Watch to Unlock is the ad method mentioned earlier. This can be used to unlock old and new episodes for 72 hours. Right now, the limit is On Mondays you can crack a Fortune Cookie for upto 1,000 ink.

What I’m Reading
Aside from Revolutionary Princess Eve and The Witch’s Throne, I didn’t have a list of webcomics to read in mind. So, I used Tapas Reading Events to discover “New to Me” webcomics.

By the way, I found out Solo Leveling, a highly anticipated anime, is a Tapas Webcomic; as well was, Why Realaina Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion. Those animes are/will be available to stream on Crunchyroll
Final Thoughts
I’m glad that I decided to try out Tapas. The daily events help me earn ink and check out new stories. If a comic is on hiatus, sometimes I can read the novel that accompanies it on the same app. Getting ahead with the novel doesn’t mean I won’t go back and read the comics. If that was the case, I’d be done with The Remarried Empress and I’m The Queen of this Life (these are current Webtoons). At the end of the day, I wouldn’t replace Webtoon with Tapas. There is room on my phone for both.
