Grand Hustle and 85 South Show Made An Independent Film

“Delve into the intricacies of DA’PARTMENTS, where every unit holds a unique narrative. Join us in experiencing the art of storytelling brought to life within these walls.”

D’Apartments

Last year, I started watching Brii Renee’s weekly vlog.  Since I follow 85 South Show on YouTube, her vacation vlog with Karlous Miller popped up on my feed. I was like who got Karlous grinning like this. So, watched it and ended up falling down a rabbit hole of content.

I like Brii’s personality and work ethic. Her hustle and moments of vulnerability made me think about my blogs future.  She a multifaceted person that wants her audience to achieve their goals too. That’s why I subscribed to my Country Cousin’s channel.  Not so long story short, that’s how I came across Da’Partments.

Da’Partments Synopsis

DA’PARTMENTS is a scripted, coming-of-age comedy drama series with sci-fi elements. Taking place in Modern-Day Atlanta and inspired by current events/life experiences, we discover the sweet spot between the impoverished and enchanted as we navigate the complexities of an apartment complex. Alluring, cinematic, and character-driven, DA’PARTMENTS is a brilliant take on the experiences of the marginalized and underrepresented, layering compelling stories and nuance into beautiful pieces of art.

The film was released October 10, 2023. The run time is 1 hr and 19 min. The Comedy was directed by Tip T.I. Harris and co-written with Malcolm Champ Heaggans. It was only released in the United States with limited screen time. It was meant to be streamed and/or digitally purchased.

The Premier

So what does this have to do with my Country Cousin? Last Fall, Brii shared a variety of good advice and glimpses of her life in Atlanta, which included Da’Partments October 9 premier at the state-of-the-art IPIC Theatres in Midtown Atlanta.

During the premier T.I. explains why he wrote, directed, and produced Da’Partments. In a way, it reminded me of Rudy Ray Moore’s Dolomite. I say that from and entrepreneur perspective.

Sometimes we have to make our own way. Someone’s no limits them. Not you. It’s kind of like: if you make it, they will come. There is an audience for high quality hood comedies.

The genre shouldn’t be limited, just because Hollywood doesn’t  want to pay top dollar to produce it. This is what makes black creators bet on themselves. Those with a financially supportive fan base are able to take risks like this.

Where Can I Watch Da’Partments?

You can buy a Digital Copy for $9.99 or rent it for $4.99. Considering the cast and producers, that’s an surprisingly affordable price to me. If you’re still on the fence about supporting this independent production. Check out the trailer below.
