If the cover didn’t make it clear, From Crook to Cook is one of Snoop Dogg’s Completed Side Quests. After all, Unc wears many hats these days. This only adds to his resume. Snoop is a published author. Given his relationship with food, it was only a matter of time. That being said, did he have to grace us with 50 Platinum Recipes? No. Did he have Martha Stewart write a Forward for his cookbook anyways? Absolutely.
First Impression
The Money Green Cover and Gold highlights with his unapologetic swag made me do a double take. Aside from recipe ingredients and directions, most of the cookbook is narrated by Snoop Dogg. You’ll definitely here Snoop’s voice and personality immediately. Due to his recreational activities, you’ll get remixed classic recipes, as well as, his favorite snacks/treats with brief explanations.
These tidbits give readers a bit to chew on between categories. Kind of like fun facts about Snoop, which included his taste in music. These sections are called Beats & Bites; playlists Uncle Snoop suggests for holidays and special occasions. Accent colors and typeface are used to make these sections stand out.
Fair Warning
Speaking of colors and typeface, it seems like these methods were used beef up sections that lacked food photography. Due to text and photo copyright, I can’t provide examples, but felt the need to share that with y’all. I expected more visuals for these Platinum Recipes.
The various colors and typeface made some sections jarring to read. Some of those photos went toward his favorite munchies. Due to Snoop’s international fanbase it makes sense to provide visual. It did come across as redundant for someone that’s regularly exposed to American Consumerism.
Final Thoughts
I’d consider From Crook To Cook a Novelty Cookbook. It’s a fun read with clever recipes, but you wouldn’t use it daily. Kind of like a coffee table book that you keep in the kitchen. Due to the quality printing and binding, $24.95 is a fair price for a hardcover book. This is why I don’t see this cookbook as a Money Grab. I like the fact that Snoop Dogg co-wrote another cookbook with E-40 called Goon with the Spoon. Each are available at The Snooper Market

Overall, I am thankful that I checked my Library’s new book banner. Although the book wasn’t circulating yet, available to borrow, I was able to place a hold on it. This allowed me to check it out for FREE99. Some people might argue that I’m not supporting Snoop Dogg by borrowing his book from the library. Truthfully, I’m surprised From Crook to Cook was available to borrow at all.
Libraries hold a plethora of knowledge. As a former library kid now grownup, I know how important it is frequently visit these places. Borrowing new items provides reassurance that they’re adding material patrons want access to.
