So, I finally got around to watching Knuckles MiniSeries. You see, I bought the Sonic The Hedgehog Saga So Far for a few reasons. One, I didn’t own the first two. Shout-out to local libraries that keep up with new releases. Two, it came with Knuckles, which is only available to stream on Paramount+. Truthfully, I was waiting for Sonic 3 to come out on DVD, but I couldn’t resist. The price was fair and it was the last one. That’s how we got here.
So What’s Knuckles About?
The series takes place after Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Knuckles isn’t adjusting well to life on Earth. Not to say he’s distressed about it. It’s more like he’s causing unintentional havoc. Knuckles is aware he’s the last of the Echidnas, but he is not alone. Feeling lost, Knuckles asks for a sign. His half hearted request is spiritually fulfilled. To our surprise, the elder nominates Wade, whose currently training for…a bowling championship. Let’s just say a few key phrases from Wade encourages Knuckles to become his mentor. Not that Wade actually sought Knuckles out. Surprisingly, this journey gradually led to less screen time for Knuckles.

I’m assuming production played a big role in this. Think about it, Knuckles is voiced by Idris Elba and we’re getting film level animation. Plus, we get a Sonic and Tails, who are also voiced by their film voice actors, cameo on the front end of the series. So, Animators are adding these fictional characters in a live action environment. In my opinion, an actors check plays less of a role in a TV MiniSeries budget when animation is involved.
We’ve Got Hijinks, Where’s The Danger?
It’s a universal truth that there are consequences for our actions. Ex GUN members and former Dr. Robotnik employees are after Knuckles for his power. Because Wade rescues his mentor early on, his family gets caught up in the mayhem. Yes, they find a way to blend Knuckles problems with Wade’s Daddy Issues.
Final Thoughts
Although I expected more screen time for Knuckles, the series is still worth watching. It can be streamed on Paramount+. So it’s not like you’ve got a pay extra to watch. Combined with Sonic 1 and 2, the limited series was practically free. From a financial perspective, I didn’t feel let ripped off. Plus, it was a fun ride from start to finish.
