Obscure Holidays: International Waffle Day

Have you eaten a waffle today? If not, March 25 is the perfect excuse to eat a stack of waffles. There’s not much you need to do. In fact, experimenting with different toppings is optional. It’s just a day for people around the world to enjoy waffles.Nothing more. Nothing less. So why bring it up? Well, every now and again, I like to look up obscure holidays. Just to see what people might be celebrating. I’d like to say this one of my quirky interest, but it’s not.

Side Story (This Has Nothing To Do With Waffles Feel Free To Skip It)

Over a decade ago, I signed up for a holiday column with thecelebritycafe.com. As the column name suggests, it was my responsibility to write original content about holidays. When I hit a wall, an editor suggested I  look into obscure holidays. So, If you’ve followed me for a while, you might have of noticed obscure holidays post sprinkled here and there. That’s my somewhat unnecessary back story.

To Celebrate Or Not To Celebrate

There’s is a debate about how great waffles are. A Panel of Comedians and Content Creators argued about it on Great Taste and Worst Taste. Both are original shows primarily created and produced by Patrick St. Cloud on All Deff Digital.

If you didn’t watch, Belgium Waffles are a solid brunch choice. Depending on your beverage of choice, it’s a good idea to keep a carb on the plate. Also, condiments can make them sweet and savory.

This may sound like I am back peddling, but Meg Scoops made a solid point. Sometimes, restaurants make their Belgium Waffles to dry and there’s really not a great amount of syrup/butter that can save it. I have sent back a plate of waffles in place of pancakes.

Final Thoughts

Eating waffles today is entirely up to you. It’s not to late to grab brunch. If you don’t feel like making a big deal about it, consider making your own with a waffle iron. They don’t have to be made from scratch. Most pancake mix boxes have a separate recipe for waffles. I on the other hand will take this opportunity to create a new segment called Obscure Holidays. Like Random Thoughts, I don’t intend to publish this column on a weekly basis. Who knows when the next one will publish.

Sharing is caring! Let me know what you think.
