I tried to fight it as long as I could, but the library had Frozen. Long story short, this movie reluctantly joined the rotation. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good movie. It’s just kids are capable of rewatching things like they dint know what’s going to happen next. Hence the reason this column was created in the first place. Just like the other posts before this one, I have some observations to share.
Anna Is Hard Headed
Yes, I get that Anna is between toddler and kid at this time. I get it, her danger sense was very low at this age. That’s why she wasn’t listening to Elsa. The higher the snow mountain got, the faster she ran. Elsa noticed and tried to tell her, but she slips trying to save Anna from herself. Now, we don’t know if Anna eggs Elsa on to use her powers prior to this, but it’s likely why she was left out of the secret afterwards. Again Anna was young and we’ve gotta start the plot somewhere.

However, Young Adult Anna’s temper tantrum brought about Winter. How? She wouldn’t give Elsa her gloves back. This made no sense to me. Anna can clearly see how distressed Elsa was, but didn’t give them back out of spite. Also, Anna wasn’t listening to Ice Queen Elsa. Both sisters are talking over each other in the ice castle. Elsa gets overwhelmed by her emotions and unintentionally lashes out. Elsa literal says, there’s so much fear, you’re not safe here. But Elsa is over here singing for the first time in forever 🙄.
Shame Isn’t A Great Supresent
I’ll admit that the troll is the one that said people would fear Elsa’s power, but how is seclusion supposed to help her? The stress of hiding something that comes naturual to her doesn’t make sense to me. I’m pretty sure a good amount of staff new what Elsa was capable of. She was their first daughter/crown princess that seemed pretty comfortable using her ice power. She isn’t restricted till Anna is accidentally struck by ice magic. Her parents (primarily her father), use the incident to treat Elsa’s magic like a curse.
Children don’t learn to regulate their emotions overnight. By loosing both parents mid adolescents, her support system and confidants are gone. Leaving her in a depressive state. She’s on edge and tries to maintain a stoic demenaner. I’m not saying she’s warm and bubbly like Anna. I’d argue her icy dispositions stems from how she was raised. Not her powers.
Why Didn’t Elsa Abdicate The Throne
How is Elsa supposed to run a kingdom that’s she’s been sheltering herself from for over a decade. Prior to the incident, it seemed like people had (within reason) access to the royal family. Post memory wipe, the castles being maintained by skeleton crew. By the time Elsa’s coronation comes around, she’s worried about using her powers in front of everyone. She’d become so dependent on the gloves, that she feared engaging with others and objects without them. Wouldn’t it be easier to let it go?

Final Thoughts
Maybe I’m over simplifying it. Abdicating the throne might of led to more questions about Elsa. Still, she could have secluded herself or lived in isolation like she desired. I don’t know if her sense of duty made her hold on to the duty. Maybe she’d feel guilty handing her birth right over to Elsa. We don’t know.
Anna saving herself at the end was a good plot twist. She did love Elsa and choose to make the harder choice in the end. If you think about it, the alternative ending would have been a dark direction for a Disney movie. Yea you get true loves kiss, but what about Elsa? Saying all’s well that ends well seems a bit harsh. Anyways, the movie has catchy songs, but I couldn’t overlook some of these issues. Not that it matters. Frozen is a Disney Staple at this point. Hope you enjoyed my random thoughts. See ya next week for Motivational Mondays with Trisha!
