Apples, Apples, Apples

Were your apple choices restricted as a kid? I recall having Red Delicious, Granny Smith, and Gala apples in my house on a regular basis. I never really put much thought into it. During college, a friend introduced me to Pink Lady apples, which automatically takes me back to Grease. But that’s not what today’s post is about. So, I won’t entertain that side story. Once I was on my own, I started paying attention to the rows of apples in the produce section. I’m glad stores try to have a variery.

Don’t get me wrong, I love apples. In fact, one of my core memories was going apple picking in First Grade. I’ll never forget the feeling of getting to pick them from the sources and bringing about 10 home with me. Truthfully, I don’t recall tour guides talking about different types of apples. However, I had the attention span of a six year old. So who knows.

If your wondering were I’m going with this, I am curious about different species of apples. Why do they taste different? Why do prices per pound fluctuate? The apple section at the grocery store looks like a red, yellow, and green rainbow.

Believe it or not, I’ve wrestled with how to introduce my thoughts on the matter. Patrick Clouds apple observation gave me the focus I need to share my favorite apples and their characteristics with you. They might read more like stats, which would still line up with Pat’s personality. Before we go into it, I hope this short reel brings you chuckles today.

My Favorite Types of Apples

Pink Lady – Tart and sweet apples with a refreshingly crisp bite. Origin : Australia.

Gala – Mild and Sweet apples grown from May to September. Origin: New Zeland.

Fuji – Crisp and juicey apple that can satisfy a sweet tooth. Origin: Japan.
