Let’s Play New Home is Tapas and Crunchyroll

What would you do if your favorite game streamer verbally demolished your indie game? You might say your ego was bruised, but you’ll do better. How civil of you. Oh, I forgot to mention his fanbase review bombed your game. Some didn’t even download it, which makes their opinions invalid. Now, your attempts to leave the life that was laid out for you goes up in flames. Although you still love gaming, the online mob experience leaves you feeling personally betrayed by your favorite streamer. You’re probably wondering where the romance comes into this? Well, this one will be dramatic and a bit messy for Sam.

The Dating Game She Unknowingly Signed Up For

You’ve got the friend zone guy that Sam doesn’t realize wants a deeper relationship. They game together with a group of eclectic friends. Its kind of like everyone else can see it but her. Comfort in the current situation and fear of change kept this option dormant. Many potential leads in this category are only motivated by an outside force.

Then there’s the streamer she ends up living next door to. He’s noticing her, but doesnt know he harshly critized her game. The gamer guy option seems like a relationship that’s doomed to fail. He’s overly conscious of what others think of him. He’s fighting with who he should be and what others expect him to be.

Then, we have Daddy’s employe. Remember that I mentioned she was trying to leave the life laid out for her. Her father is successful and wants to pass his legacy to his daughter. Most media like to pit the right hand against the nepo baby. This option puts us in an enemies-to-lovers situation because he views her as a threat. It’s only when he finds out she’s not interested in taking over the family business that his abrasive side takes a seat. Like the other characters,  he’s got plenty of red flags, too.

How Did We Get Here

Back in 2022, I bingeread Let’s Play. At the time, it was a webcomic exclusively hosted on Webtoon. It wasn’t Lore Olympus,  but the series held its own in the romance genre. At the time, Mongie, the creator, and Webtoon ended their contractual relationship. Webtoon.  Despite that, the webcomic was still available to read on Webtoon, which makes sense. They paid for those epsidoes. For the last three years, new fans have been hitting a brick wall. The story wasn’t over, but the series lacked a new home.

Tapas Sets Up Let’s Play To Regain Its Popularity On A New Platform

Tapas is good for boosting new and returning series views by offering ink rewards. That being said, their promotion of Let’s Play is different from a typical ink event. Readers don’t have to use WUF to earn ink. In fact, Episode 1 thru 60 are free to read. Tapas will unlock one episode every 3 hours. I appreciate that the readers are being rewarded for their patience. We’ve waited for a platform to pick up Let’s Play for a few years now. Supporters can binge without spending a lot of money on epsidoes they may have unlocked on Webtoon. Potential fans maybe tempted to read all the free episodes, leaving them wanting more.

Production Studios Continue To See Value In Webcomic Adaptations

There’s a steady growth in webcomics getting screentime. They don’t have to be action themed either. In fact, I started reading Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke’s Mansion on Tapas, because I watched the anime on Crunchyroll. I was aware of Solo Leveling, but it took the anime teaser trailer for me to read it. Basically, launching Let’s Play on Tapas while simultaneously promoting the anime adaptation is a win-win for everyone.

Final Thoughts

I dont like when a completed original series ends up on another platform like it’s brand new. Just because it’s new to the platform, it doesn’t mean readers should have to pay the full rate to unlock them. My only counter to that are Free Access webcomics. The creator has minimal benefits for producing this way,  because the platform isn’t contracted to pay them for each epsiode. Readers had an opportunity to read for free. That being said, I’m glad that Tapas isn’t trying to make immediate bank off of our impatience. It’s typical for webcomics on this app to have a thru 20 unlocked, as well as wuf passes. To unlock 60 right off the bat is extremely rare. I plan to take advantage of this opportunity.  Hope you do too.
