Random Thoughts: Despicable Me 4

Of all the Despicable Me Movies and Minion Origin Stories, this one was unnecessary. The first movie is about a villain that gives up villaney to become a girl dad. The second, covers the difficulty of a career change and people in a past can make it difficult to change.  I mean Dr. Nefario literally takes a job with another villian in the hopes of getting Gru to comeback to the dark side. The third talks about how the grass isnt always greener on the otherside. It appears Gru’s twin brother has a better life. Yet, he still ended up with a parent that criticized him. In short, each movie adds to the plot.

The Minion Movies cover where these little guys came from and how they ended up with Gru. Minions are popular. These movies can be seen as cash grabs, but they served a purpose. This fourth installment of Despicable Me contradicts the third movie.  That’s why I decided to share my random thoughts about it.

How Did The AVL Get The Minions?

At the end of Despicable Me 3, Dru took Gru’s aircraft and the minions were wearing white jump suits. Now, they’re back in their signature denim overalls getting turned into super hereos? The chose villaney at the end of the movie. So what’s up with back peddling.

What Was The Point Of Dru?

He has no significance in this movie. If they planned to shelve him for Despicable Me 4, the third movie seems unnecessary to me. Since they havent aged up the girls,  adding a baby to the 4th implies the girls should be getting a bit older. Dru loves and cares about his family. Gru’s mother is very indifferent towards him but seems to care about her grandchildren. Wouldn’t they find it odd, the whole family is gone?

There’s An Academy For Villians?

After three Despicable Me movies and two Minion Movies,  we are introduced to Gru’s Villian prep school. If I had to guess,  it starts at middle school or junior high, because it’s never mentioned in Gru’s elementary flash backs. Yet, we’re supposed to accept that he attended a school for villaney and had a rivalry there.

Final Thoughts

It seems a lot of these movies are becoming cash grabs. Illumination has made many popular family movies. When it comes to inconsistencies, Children are more forgiving and at times unaware of them. The adults in their lives pick up on them because kids can re-watch movies/shows like it’s the first time for the hundredth time. As always, I dont expect to find and answer to any of these observations. Its just interesting to see who else noticed.  Thanks for stopping by. Hope you’ll be back soon!
