So, I was working on my shopping list for the week and wanted to get some loose granola for yogurt parfaits. Although there was plenty of brands and types, I just felt like this was something that I could make myself. Out of curiosity, I started searching for granola recipes. Since I wasn’t in the mood to heat my kitchen up for an experimental recipe, I thought that I was out of luck. Then, I found a cooking video by Food By Ashydemmys.
Her No Oven title got my attention, because most recipes call for it. She filmed it from the first person perspective, which makes it easier to see the process. Its an approach that Linna and Imamu use for their cooking vlogs. This is my preferred way of learning new recipes. Ashydemmys encouraging approach made me feel like I could get this done in no time. I was fortunate to have most of the ingredients on hand. After breakfast, I got started. The gallery below breaks down how we went from bowl to stove.

Although Ashydemmys recipe featured dried fruits and nuts, I decided to just add flaxseed to it. I didn’t want to buy granola with all the bells and whistles in the first place. That’s what triggered my recipe search. I understand the convenience of processed granola, but I didn’t like the price to ounce ratio for it. Like why does this cost the same as a box of cereal, but I get less granola?

Final Thoughts
It took some work, but convenience isn’t always the answer. Since I’m on a yogurt kick right now, I don’t need granola with a long shelf life. More often than not, we have the ingredients to make full use of our food budget, but we don’t know what to do with it. I’ve cooked and baked for decades now, but im always learning something new. Whether out of need or curiosity, I encourage you to look into food that you want to make.
