During one of my weekly library trips, I came across a new Graphic Novel in the Young Adult section. This particular display had the cover facing out. The cover’s character designs reminded me of HP1 Club, a Dungeons & Dragons Webtoon. If your curious, Season One has 110 Episodes and will return for Season Two. Since I don’t have a Tapas account, this was a great opportunity to read the first 24 Chapters for free. I figure the more patrons borrow “webcomic to graphic novels” books , the more likely librarians will order more. That’s how I got my hands on print copies of Lore Olympus, as well as, The Abandoned Empress.

In three short weeks, she managed to find a Warrior (Reksha), a Rogue (Grom Foster), and a Saint (Valdis Rumont). Volume One gives us some backstory on the witch, character introduction, training montage, and the challenges that lie ahead. Alva Vandheim, The Divine Prophet, makes it abundantly clear this quartet is not in the running. Still, previous Throne Seekers underdogs have thwarted The Divine Prophets premonition. Only time will tell if Agni, Reksha, Grom, and Valdis will succeed. Volume One ends with a sneak peek of Volume Two.

Role Play Game Elements
Throughout Volume One, I like the character introductions. We got a separate frame that showed their name, skills and attributes. Plus, the reader can see how much damage each throne seeker receives a long with cool attack names. There’s a mixture of white and black space used throughout the comic book. Since Cedric Caballes (author/illustrator) utilizes white space for a majority of the attack sequences, the reader can appreciate the fight with minimal distraction from the setting.

Final Thoughts
I’m thankful that publishers continue to print webcomics. Don’t get me wrong, I like the convenience of apps. However, a phone/tablet can’t compete with book. It doesn’t matter whether it’s paperback or hardcover. There’s just something special about getting lost in a book. Also, the print copy of Witch’s Throne gives Non-Tapas Subscribers a chance to support creators outside of the app. You get to unlock over 20 Chapters at once. Wifi and Mobile Data won’t compromise the quality of art and storytelling that goes into this webcomic.
