Rachel Smythe Presents An Inklore Imprint of Random House Worlds Publishing

If you’re a Lore Olympus fan, I’m sure you’re feeling the joy and sorrow of the upcoming Series Finale. After all, Lore Olympus has been a top tier Webtoon for years. Rachel Smythe has made it abundantly clear that Lore Olympus Series Finale is the last episode. If you’ve been living under a rock, I suggest binging Lore Olympus.

If you think this series won’t turn into Daily Pass, you’d be out of your mind. Consider this your public service announcement; however, this is not the purpose of today’s discussion. I want to bring Inklore to your attention. You see, Under The Oak Tree, a Mantra Comic post caught my eye. The cover art was a bit different from the Mantra Ads I was accustomed to. That’s when I found out about Inklore.

What’s Inklore

Inklore is an imprint of Random House Worlds publishing the best in manga, manhwa, manhua,  webcomics, and graphic novels, both licensed and original, for adult audiences. Our team is dedicated to celebrating the most popular, fan-driven tropes in visual storytelling, with a focus on the romance, fantasy, science-fiction, horror, and slice-of-life genres.

Rebecca β€œTay” Taylor, Editorial Director, “Introducing INKLORE, a New Global Pop-Comics Imprint,” Penguin Random House, July 5 2023.

In my opinion, this is a smart move for Penguin Random House, because plenty of webcomic creators are getting publishing deals.  Creating an subsection that’s dedicated to bringing web-to-print, implies that the publishing company is making a unique space for these creators. If you’re curious, Keith Clayton, VP & Deputy Publisher, Random House Worlds is leading the INKLORE and Rebecca β€œTay” Taylor, Editorial Director has direct editorial oversight.

What Does This Have To Do With Rachel Smythe?

Although Inklore was launched June 2023, I was surprised to find out that Inklore had a part in Lore Olympus Volume One, a print version of Rachel Smythe’s Webtoon Original. Volume One thru Six are available for purchase. Whereas Volume Seven is available for pre-order. Based on the cover art, we haven’t reached the 10 year time skip yet. Truthfully, Smythe could continue to profit off her series alone. Yet, Rachel Presents goes beyond Lore Olympus.

Since Inklore and Rachel Smythe Presents are still in their infancy, we’ll have to see where this goes. Regardless, it’s nice seeing webcomics that I love so much in retailer book sections and my public library. What do you think of Inklore? Is it here to bring us new creators or just shuffle their current contracts into a niche section of their publishing company?
