You know there’s something fulfilling about decorating your own space. Especially for the holidays, it adds to the anticipation. Since it’s temporary, it adds vibrance to your living space. Those who prefer a minimalist lifestyle may disagree, because decorating can lead to clutter. That really comes down to the finished product and strategically storing decorations away for next season.
For me personally, a home in its natural state without decorations doesn’t feel like the holiday season. My “new” environment helps me get through some of the mundane tasks needed to manage my home. There also a nonverbal indicator that certain holidays are on the way. So they get my family excited for the different activities and tasks. Those are the reasons decorating is motivating to me.
Don’t underestimate how much dopamine a person can get from holiday decor. Especially with Seasonal Affective Disorder lurking in the background.
