Inside Out is an interesting Pixar movie, because it showcases how important it is to feel all of our feelings. Secondly, the movie showcase what grinning and bearing it can do overtime. Masking our true feelings for an indefinite amount of time isn’t maintainable. Like any emotion, our minds and bodies need to release sadness just as much as anger, fear, and disgust. The time to release sadness is situational.
There are times where Lazer focus and positivity are needed. If we don’t regulate our emotions, they’ll erupt. Like with Inside Out, Joy doesn’t like how Sadness makes Riley feel. If she let Riley feel sad, it could of prevented waterworks in the classroom. Truth be told of all the emotions, Joy can’t fathom why Riley needs to be sad.
Also, Joy is trying to mask Riley’s Sadness for the family. Mom praises Riley for staying their “happy girl” and asks her to keep it up. The pressure to keep everyone happy causes her to make an irrational decision. By trying to delete a sad core memory, she gets launched into Long Term memory with Sadness. Long story short, I encourage you to set aside time for your sadness. It’s an important emotion.
