In the U.S. there are a few Seasonal KitKats that hit shelves throughout the year. However, the most accessible flavor is the original. Don’t get me wrong, they taste good. Since it’s basically wafer and chocolate, KitKats are an accessible treat choice for most children and adults. That being said, there’s something fun about trying new things. Across the Pacific Ocean, KitKats have become thoughtful business trip souvenirs.
Why Are There So Many KitKat Flavors Made in Japan
Just in case you didn’t watch, souvenirs are an important part of business culture in Japan. Whether the trip was business or pleasure, colleges are still covering down for your absence. So edible souvenirs are a way to show thanks and acknowledge the sacrifices others made. So what does this have to do with KitKats? Blending KitKats with Regional Japanese Flavors provides a unique taste with a familiar base. What doesn’t go well with chocolate and wafers?

Since the U.S. made it a point to spread American Commercialism throughout the twentieth century, Hershey as a brand has international recognition. That’s where the familiarity comes in. The giver provides a familiar edible gift with Regional ties to the area they visited. That sounds like a win win to me. Not to say that true regional snacks aren’t the way to go. I’m just saying there was an untapped market for these treats that KitKat took advantage of. Thanks to e-commerce, you don’t have to be a businessman to get your hands on these unique flavors.
What’s My KitKat Wishlist

If given the opportunity, I’d likely go with safer options like apple, strawberry, and matcha. Not to say the others haven’t caught my eye. If I have to spend money, I’m going to go with flavors I’m more likely to eat. Gifts are different. The recipient didn’t risk anything. If they don’t like it, no harm no foul. At least that’s how I see it.
