We live in a world were terrible news comes swiftly. Once it’s received, we’re privy to updates and think pieces about it. Staying aware of what’s going on around you is not only important but unavoidable as well. Still, you can’t bombarded your mind on things outside of your controll 24/7. I understand this isn’t possible for everyone. When you have front row seats, there’s a survival instinct that feeds on the pressure the situation is causing. The mind and body have no choice. If you’re not in that position, you need to find ways to decompress.
This pressure outside of fight or flight situations doesn’t have anywhere to go. In order to stay upto date on the situation, you’ve got to make time to decompress. This isn’t like reading a newspaper. Social media has made it possible to receive unfiltered access to information within minutes. To stay aware of the situation and potentially help those in harms way, you can’t hold on to that despair. Don’t ignore it and bottle it up. It may feel like you’re releasing the pressure just to make room for more. This is how we stop ourselves from imploding.
