You know it’s nice when an unexpectedly cozy anime becomes an ongoing series. It’s not uncommon for cozy animes/mangas to end with cliffhangers. Studios tend to take more risks with action driven anime than light hearted stories. Those of us that have been burned enough by discontinued anime are numb to this fact and somewhat cautious about starting whimsical suggestion. Yet, here we are watching a man prepare Japanese comfort food in another world. What a time to be an anime fan.
That being said, I know that Isakies get a bad rep, because they’re viewed as an over saturated market. How bad they are really depends on what you like. They can be light hearted or extremely dangerous. Plus the genre has subcategories like: transmigration, reincarnation, regression. Because of those similarities, people tend to mix them up. The way the MC gets to the world is important.
Group Summoning To Defeat An Adversary
So, Truck kun is not responsible for this isekai. Nor is a novel or a video game. No, this salary man was alive and well. This matters because he is still himself. So, he hasn’t transmigrated into someone else. Nor is he a future version of himself, that’s woken up in the past. So, Mukouda is in this new fantasy style world with modern knowledge. This is why he makes certain decisions right off the bat.
I Don’t Want To Be Apart Of The Heroe’s Party
For starters, our guy has sound judgement. It appears Mukouda was supposed to be a cook/manager of the heroes party. This role sounds burdensome and thankless. Fortunately, the court did not see his value and gave him a severance package. Our boy used that to get out of the kingdom as soon as possible.
This wasn’t easy, because he was basically a level 1 Appraiser with 0 attack or defense skills. So, he needed hired muscle to keep him safe. Since the kingdom was cracking down on their borders, he was going to have to take the dangerous route out of there. This worked out for the adventurer party, because they got a mild job with hot comfort food.
The cuisine was so delicious it caught the attention of a legendary monster. So, Mukouda ends up with a familiar whose more of the master in this relationship. Honestly, that’s to be expected. Now here is where Mukouda’s OP journey really begins.
Where Do We Go From Here?
Since he’s basically Fel’s personal chef, Mukouda is expected to turn Fel’s bounty into delicious dishes. In this world, monster are the equivalent of domestic meat. Just harder to obtain and various degrees of delicacy. Fels ability to nerf his targets earns Makota an alarming amount of money. Aside from the meat, he has no need for a bunch of monster parts. So, the adventurers guild buys it. If one familiar making easy cash for him wasnt enough, he gets another one.
The trash he generates from making Fel other worldly food attracts Sui the slime. Though adorable, Sui quickly becomes a formidable opponent. As the trio explores what this world has to offer, Mukouda starts learning magic. He’s proficient in fire and earth magic. Though he’s got OP familiars, he takes the time to learn how to protect himself. It’s more of a last resort than anything. It adds another element to this amusing journey.
So what’s do delightful about this anime?
Anime food always looks delicious. This show takes it a step further, because it’s like a Japanese comfort food vlog. It’s not that he’s a great cook. It’s more like he knows the basics and where he can cut corners with his online shopping. He doesn’t have to make everything from scratch. So, he can achieves the flavors he is seeking with other worldly sauces and spices. As the skill implies, he can’t get these ingredients for free. To get yen, he has to earn money in this new world and convert it to yen. This also allows him to be a merchant, because he can afford common goods that are luxuries there. You’d think this would make people suspicious, but it doesn’t.
He’s Over Powered And Everyone’s Okay With This?
Another thing that gets me about this show is people accept things at face value. They acknowledge that he’s got a power house of familiars, but they don’t let that turn into jealousy or envy. Instead, they’re thankful for his help with dealing with monsters. In my opinion, a lot of viewers keep waiting for there to be consequences for his actions.
He’s accidently become overpowered from Season One to Season Two. I just feel like the King that summoned him here will want him to comeback and defeat the Demon King. Like he shouldn’t be able to, because our MC got a severance package from that kingdom, but the threat of that still worries me. I do appreciate that he feels the same way. He reluctantly accepts accelerated ranks from the guilds, because he doesn’t want to make a name for himself. So, I’m glad he’s not so carefree that his legend status doesn’t terrify him.
Final Thoughts
Overall, it’s a lo-fi anime to enjoy at your lesirue. You don’t have to be laser focused to enjoy this straight forward journey. The music and post credit clips are nice. Oh, I forgot to mention this anime has a Light Novel. Usually, I lead with this, but it isn’t our first Light Novel to Anime post. If you are not new here, that’s why I changed it up about. Right now, the Light Novel is at Volume 17. When available, I like to read Light Novels, because they’re usually way ahead of the anime. It’s interesting to see how much the art style changes. If you’re looking for q low stakes high reward binge. Considering making time to watch Season 1 and 2 on Crunchyroll. Then you’ll be all caught up waiting for Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill Season 3 like the rest of us.
