Motivational Mondays with Trisha : Self Love

Lizzo’s award winning dance competition, Watch Out For The Big Grrrls, gives plus size women that are under represented in the dance industry a chance to secure a spot on her 2022 Tour. After the initial audition two women are sent home. One was immediately promoted to Lizzo’s dance crew. The remaining 10 moved into the house for the competition. What does this have to do with self love. Don’t worry, I’m getting there.

Unlike other dance competition shows, Lizzo was trying to fill 10 spots. The show was less about competing with each other and more about overcoming issues like fear, doubt, low self esteem, body dismorphia and more. There is a lot of mental and spiritual energy that goes into dancing. A mind at war can not hide its invisible scars forever. Along with choreography, the Potential Big Grrrls, took several classes to unleash their inner beauty, smash the thin veil of self-hate that hinders their dancing, and taking care of their bodies as a form of self care. The vulnerability was familiar and intimidating for a lot of people.

Self criticism can be lethal. It’s one thing to know your own weakness. It’s another to repeatedly beat yourself up for it. It’s funny that we can love others so freely, but loving ourselves can be so difficult. Before we get into this week’s quotes, check out Lizzo’s music video 2 Be Loved (Am I Ready). It embodies the quotes below.
