Is it possible to create the flavor profile you need with various herbs and spices? Yes! Do I have time for that every day? No. Well kind of. We make time for the things we care about. I love cooking. Sometimes, I need a little help. When I’m in the mood to switch it up, I use McCormick Grill Mates. After all, my seasoning journey started with a McCormick Assorted Spice w/ spice rack that was gifted to my mom. I still remember researching each spice and learning what types of foods they paired well with. At the time, I was in my late teens with way less responsibilities. Now, I have to be more particular about what I buy and how I use it. Once it’s paid for, I can use it how I please.
My Top 8 McCormick Grill Mates
This blend is not as spicy as it sounds. On the heat scale I’d give it a 3 or a 4. The heats presence really comes down to how the meat is prepared.
If you believe a good steak only needs salt and pepper, you’ll like Montreal Steak Seasoning. It’s got a bit of a kick. Pepper and Salt are standout flavors.
Sometimes, I’ll add this blend to corn, onions, and peppers. Most of the time, I add it to vegetables soup.
Although this is marketed toward grill chicken, I like to use it to make fried chicken.
I like to make burgers from scratch, because most frozen burgers are bland. If you are trying to cook more at home, this blend will be a step up from a fast food burger.
Typically, I use barbecue seasoning for ribs. It’s a good substitute for hamburger seasoning too.
If I’m craving sweet and savory, I saute onions and mushrooms with Brown Sugar Bourbon Seasoning.
It’s not as sweet as Brown Sugar Bourbon. I prefer to use it work pork and chicken with browned butter.
You don’t have to buy Grill Mates. There are plenty of free recipes out there to help you craft your own. Unfortunately, flavor is expensive. Sure, you don’t have to buy name brand. Maintaining a full spice rack is getting expensive. It’s okay to cut corners where you can.
